environmental maps at your fingertips

Welcome to the EPA ENVision online environmental map viewer

EPA ENVision has been developed to enable you to access information on the environment in Ireland in a spatial context. The viewer enables you to view environmental information interactively on a map.

Information is provided on:

environmental quality -

  • the quality of Ireland's rivers, lakes, estuaries and coastal waters and the assessment of the risk that these might fail to reach WFD standards
  • the quality of bathing waters
  • air quality (via a link to the corresponding pages on the main EPA website)

facilities licensed by the EPA -

  • the locations of facilities with IPPC or waste licences - the licences themselves may be downloaded via a link back to the main EPA website

additional datasets - such as

  • land cover information - the Corine Land Cover dataset for 2000
  • indicative soil and subsoil datasets provided to the EPA by Teagasc
  • the locations of Water Framework Directive Protected Areas and River Basin Districts, hydrometric stations and river catchments
  • the location of towns, rivers and lakes

Screen resolution

The map is best viewed at a screen resolution of 1280 x 1024, although  a screen resolution of 1152 x 864 is usable. If you set the resolution to anything below this you will need to scroll. The viewer is not suitable for 800 x 600. For details of how to change your screen resolution, continue to EPA Maps Online and click the “Help” icon.

Download speed

If you are using a dial-up connection, the initial map will take at least 1 minute to load. To optimise performance using a dial up connection, it is best not to have lots of map layers turned on when you are zoomed to the full extent of Ireland.
